The Pistorio Foundation donates US$ 20,000 in aid of the victims of the Haiyan Typhoon that hit the Philippines, to the NECO (National Ethnic Coalition Organization) and American Red Cross appeal. Pasquale Pistorio is a NECO Ellis Island Medal of Honor recipient.
The American Red Cross is providing relief supplies and humanitarian assistance to hard hit communities including food, water, mosquito nets, blankets, and hygiene kits in Tacloban and affected areas. Along with the Philippines Red Cross and the support of Red Cross societies, the following results have been achieved: 22,400 families have received cash grants from the American Red Cross; 324,000 households have received basic emergency shelter materials as the rainy season approaches; 1 million have received food packages; 750,000 have received clean water supplies.
The American Red Cross has also deployed 35 disaster relief specialists to the Philippines, including people with expertise in relief distribution, mapping, emergency cash distributions, information management and IT, and telecommunications.
